Qatalum participated in the latest round of the premium platform for the aluminium industries in the Arab world - the Arab Aluminium Conference (ARABAL). This time around Sohar Aluminium was granted the honour to host the 21st ARABAL edition at Sohar, Sultanate of Oman, from 6 to 9 November 2017.

The agenda primarily consisted of a site tour of Sohar Aluminium smelter, a conference, an international exhibition and various other workshops, meetings and entertainment activities. The 2017 gathering of the industry influencers was themed: ‘Driving Strategic Growth across the Global Aluminium Industry’.

Qatalum delegation included Mrs. Hilde Merete Aasheim – Qatalum Vice Chair. Starting with the site tour of Sohar Aluminium smelter, the delegation was delighted to see the extent of their operations and their use of sophisticated technology for aluminium production.

This was followed by a strategic conference focusing on the current industry prospects and challenges, which was attended by more than 500 top executives from the aluminium industry. It consisted of panel discussions, presentations and case studies.

While the discussion witnessed a surge of new ideas, attendees were more interested in the interactive conversations that took place between the B2B companies. Some of the key topics discussed were industrial development, technical innovations, opportunities in the region, global economic trends, market price outlook, prospects of the aluminium industry, supply and demand, trade and exports.

Qatalum CEO Khalid Mohamed Laram was also present at the panel discussion held on the first day wherein he presented his ideas and thoughts about the general trends in the aluminium trading and manufacturing industry.

Next in line was the unique exhibition held by key investors, major suppliers and manufacturers from the international aluminium industry. The event was inaugurated during the opening ceremony of the conference followed by a VIP tour for the Chief Guest, high ranking officials, partners and sponsors at the exhibition venue.

Attended by over a thousand professionals from the region and global industry players, the exhibition provided a great platform to Qatalum to network with a new set of audiences, major investors, executives and key decision makers in the Middle Eastern region - ones that understood their industry and who could potentially work with them.
