Qatalum, a 50/50 joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and Hydro, owns and runs a primary aluminium plant in Qatar, with a design capacity of 585.000 tonnes primary aluminium per year.
“Qatalum is an important industrial development, representing a continuation of 40 years of cooperation between Qatar Petroleum and Hydro. We are happy to have Tom Petter Johansen join Qatalum as its new CEO, with his broad and extensive aluminium experience,” says Abdulrahman Ahmad Al-Shaibi, chairman of Qatalum Board of Directors.
Tom Petter Johansen (53) is currently heading Hydro’s fully owned smelters, has been with Hydro since 1985, holding a number of management positions, including sector president of Hydro Magnesium and of Hydro Automotive Structures North Europe. He has also been plant manager at Høyanger primary aluminium and at Årdal primary aluminium plants in Norway.
“I am honoured to get this opportunity and I am looking forward to working with and further develop the great team that has been built up in Qatalum, with skilled and dedicated personnel from Qatar and Norway and many other cultures and countries,” says Johansen.
Jan Arve Haugan will remain with Qatalum throughout July, securing a safe and secure hand-over of the roles and responsibilities to the new CEO.
