During the first week of April, students from Qatar University visited the Qatalum Training Centre on an industrial tour hosted by Qatalum.
A total of 47 students, 18 male and 29 female, from the department of Chemistry and Earth Science of the University attended the event which was a part of Qatalum’s ongoing commitment to its social responsibility of educating the masses about their industrial operations.
The event was held across two-days – the 5th and 6th of April for male and female respectively. On both days, the delegates were joined by faculty members and professors from the University to guide them through the industrial tour should they have any difficulty in understanding the practicality of the projects.
Head of Qatarization & Development Mr. Al-Mannai, stated that: “This collaboration between Qatar university and Aluminium industry should boost Qatalum’s image among Qatar university students as well as the local market.”
The daylong event began with a welcome and introductory session held at the training centre followed by presentations on aluminium cast house and reduction, which are two key operations carried out by professionally trained experts at Qatalum.
After the presentation, students were given a tour of the entire cast house and reduction centre, wherein notable Training and Development Supervisors explained the entire process of the two operations. They also highlighted the risks involved and what would comprise a finished product.
On the other hand, Qatar University has been a leader in providing world class education to students from across the globe and nationalities. Steering up change and empowerment in students, the University understands the need of providing an exposure into the practical side of operations to its students.
In order to contribute to Qatar’s 2030 vision of a growth oriented and developed nation by taking the first-steps towards empowering students, educating them about the industry and encouraging them to join their dynamic team, Qatalum has set an example for many firms around Qatar.
Training and Development Supervisor, Mr. Magdi Hamed said: “These kinds of activities with universities should help in attracting talented students across the nation to join Qatalum after graduation.”
Owing to the success of the industrial tour, the management at Qatalum are keen to host more of such educational industrial tours for interested students from the University. Looking forward, a visiting professor from the University said: “These trips should help students understand the real application of their education.”
