Qatalum’s Physical Fitness Campaign underway

​In order to further promote employees physical fitness, Qatalum launched this year’s Physical Fitness Campaign with the opening ceremony held on the 5th of September 2014, 3:00 pm, at the QAPCO Club, Mesaieed Industrial City.

Spearheaded by the HSE Department and supported by the Communication Department, this second physical campaign follows in the footsteps of last year's success. This year's campaign features basketball, cricket, football and badminton. In total, 549 employees from 37 nationalities have signed up to participate in these sports which will run until the 28th of November 2014.


Khalid Mohamed Laram, Qatalum's DCEO, acknowledged this campaign as a proactive compliment to Qatar's National Sports Day and said, "The State of Qatar and the H.H. the Emir are very proactive towards the benefits of sport and the National Sports Day has been celebrated to bring awareness and importance of physical activity to the general population. To align with this national agenda, Qatalum created the Physical Fitness Campaign with an overwhelming response from its employees."

Approximately 500 attendees including the Qatalum Management Team (QMT), employees and family members took part in the successful opening ceremony. The program started with a parade of players in their respective Qatalum branded sports uniform and was followed by a safety talk by Addi Atta Abboah-Offei, Head of HSE. A pledge of sportsmanship was led by Johnny Fernandez, Head of Occupational Hygiene.

Deon Earle, HSE Manager, recognized this campaign as embodying the concept of the Qatalum family. During his closing remarks, he mentioned, "This afternoon shows how Qatalum works as a family - QMT in front, family members on the benches and employees as players. We are all gathered this afternoon to witness and support this year's Physical Fitness Campaign, not as managers, employees nor family members, but as one Qatalum family.

Following the opening remarks, the ceremony ended with the traditional jump ball headed by DCEO, Laram and HSE Manager, Earle. The traditional jump ball symbolizes camaraderie and healthy competition among team players.
