Qatalum was the golden sponsor of the “Made in Qatar” exhibition in January 2013, which was organised by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce. The agreement was signed between Mr. Ibrahim J. Fakhri, Communication and PR Manager and Mr. Rashid Bin Hamad Al Athbah, Board Member of the Chamber of Commerce.

The “Made in Qatar” exhibition was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Industry and was a serious effort to contribute to the building of the national economy and enhance the performance of various sectors, especially in the field of industry, as the essential foundation to diversify sources of national income, and the best use of available resources.

As is widely known, under a far-sighted economic plan Qatar is seeking to maximise revenue from natural resources, through modernisation of industry. The industrial sector is now one of the main backbones of the Qatari economy, making up 50% of GDP. Major infrastructure projects, including industrial and freehold cities, are fuelling demand for building materials, ready-made concrete, steel, tiles, pipes and related building materials - and, of course, aluminium. Qatar’s strategy is to manufacture commodities, to move away from reliance on imported ones, reduce the balance of payment deficit, increase foreign currency reserves and, at a later stage, become a commodities exporter.

To this end, the “Made in Qatar” exhibition has the objective of attracting investment in industry, in doing so contributing to the revitalisation of this sector - which is so important in diversifying national income, thanks to the progress of the industry in providing hard currency and creating new job opportunities, and the establishment of domestic products replacing products imported from abroad.

A visible presentation of the role played by industry in sustainable development is open at the exhibition to all productive local companies and factories of local state and participating companies are given 18m2 room suites within the exhibition centre.

Mr. Ibrahim J. Fakhri said: “As Golden Sponsor of the exhibition, Qatalum will have visibility equal with its importance to the Qatari industrial sector. There will be a free space of 72m2 as a showcase for products and services, and a press conference in the Chamber premises to announce Qatalum’s sponsorship - as well as an extract in the industry directory and electronic advertisements”. It is a great opportunity for us to show our services and people to a new audience”.

Accompanying the exhibition will be lectures and symposia by a selection of industry experts from the GCC, which will address the issues of industry and the challenges facing the industrial sector, and how revitalisation can take place in the Gulf States, in addition to honouring some of the leading industrial companies in the country.

With the aim of promoting local industry, the exhibition “urges companies and industrial enterprises and productive country to provide a true picture of the Qatari economy, and be a bright facade to the visitors from around the world”.
