Qatalum Successfully Hosts 2nd Contractor HSE Forum

The Contractor HSSE Forum provides an opportunity for contractors working at Qatalum to discuss matters that will improve health and safety in the smelter

Share best practice and enlist the help of other contractors and Qatalum in finding solutions for their problem.

Qatalum successfully hosted its 2nd Quarter Contractor HSE Forum which included topics such as Heat Stress and Life Saving Rules Awareness on Working at Heights and Hazardous Energy Controls (HEC), on 30 July 2019, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, at the Al Ghazals Event Halls, Al Reem Club, Mesaieed Industrial Cities. Although informative, the take home to all participants is that sound HSE practices within Qatalum is critical and driven by each individual taking a leading intuitive

Welcoming the participants of the event is the Qatalum CEO, Tom Petter Johansen. On his remarks, he acknowledged the notable improvement of this forum from a simple gathering into a milestone that Qatalum must be proud of. He emphasized that the company is taking its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) very seriously. Furthermore, Qatalum is very serious in taking CSR as a very important criteria in choosing contractors. Our contractor management should ensure that they are providing living conditions to its employees according to Qatalum requirements.

The newly appointed HSSE Manager, Humberto Martins Dornelas was in awe to attend the event for the first time. He presented the Qatalum Contractor HSE Performance and challenged to help Qatalum achieved a world –class safety performance. While, Q-Con HSE Manager presented their company's HSE Statistics.

Andi Mappangara, Head of Safety, shared some of the lessons learnt from the high risk incidents that took place at the smelter. He also presented the next Life Saving Rules Awareness which will focus on Working at Heights.

Following up the events were featured presentations from contractors on HEC by Future Engineering and feedback from the Qatalum Contractor Functional Committee HSSE spearheaded by Ivan Hartman from STAREF. Each contractors were able to present their Heat Stress best practices during the forum.
