Working in a hot environment, like those found in the Casthouse, Carbon, Reduction and Power Plants, or working outdoor in operations and maintenance, can be very challenging for all of us in Qatar's hot summer months.
To gear up for the hot summer season in the workplace, Qatalum officially launched this year's Heat Stress Awareness Campaign for both employees and contractors at the Service Center Lobby, on 24 April 2017.
The attendees at the ceremony were welcomed by Khalid Mohamed Laram, CEO and Olaf Wigstoel, COO. Mr. Laram, in his welcome remarks, emphasized the importance of taking good care of one self at all times especially in the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. He said,
"We must ensure that we take good care of our self during the summer season especially now that the Holy Month of Ramadan is coming."
In addition, Mr. Wigstoel pointed out the importance of complying with the Qatalum Heat Stress Management requirements by sharing an inspiring story of his previous work experience in Singapore. He noted,
"In my previous work experience in Singapore, I have seen a person faint when he was closer to the finish line due to dehydration. To avoid situations such as this, we must comply with all the requirements set by the Qatalum Heat Stress Management."
Vimeshkumar Jani, the Head of Occupational Health and Hygiene, further explained the 2017 Heat Stress Awareness Campaign activities.
Acknowledging the success of the launching ceremony, Deon Earle, HSSE Manager, brought the meeting to a close by observing that the 2017 Heat Stress Awareness Campaign is not just the sole responsibility of Qatalum Management Team (QMT), but rather everyone's commitment and responsibility.
