Qatalum Hosts Liver Cancer Awareness Workshop

The Communications Department at Qatalum, in collaboration with Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), recently hosted an awareness campaign about Liver Cancer for staff and contractors, a free virtual workshop titled ‘Liver Cancer Awareness’ was held on 12 July for Qatalum employees and contractors.

Liver cancer is the seventh most prevailing cancer among both genders in Qatar, more common among the male and older populations.

The workshop was designed to help people understand the risk factors that can increase the chances of developing liver cancer such as diabetes, alcohol consumption, hepatitis B&C infections, obesity, and tobacco use. Symptoms were discussed, and the importance of early detection was also stressed during the workshop. Staff and contractors were additionally given medical and health advice, and were advised about liver cancer prevention as well.

All attendees online were directed about the ways to handle toxic chemicals as part of the campaign, QCS provided to Qatalum hygiene kits to be distributed to contractors encouraging them to prevent themselves during this pandemic period. The campaign was a success and actively via screens and emailers, besides the hosting of the workshop as a webinar from the Communications department.

The recent Liver Cancer campaign by Qatalum is part of the series of cancer awareness campaigns the company has conducted over the years in collaboration with Qatar Cancer Society, and as part of their CSR initiative. It is important for Qatalum that both the Qatar community and its own stakeholders, including employees and contractors, benefit from these initiatives.
