Qatalum Announces One-Year Agreement to Support Qatar Foundation for Elderly People (IHSAN)

New CSR initiative underlines company’s commitment to supporting marginalised people through progressive corporate citizenship.

Qatalum is pleased to announce an agreement to support the Qatar Foundation for Elderly People (IHSAN), a private, independent organisation dedicated to improving the lives and status of seniors. The foundation was first established under the Supremely Council for Family Affairs, and later declared as a private establishment with its own legal capacity. IHSAN is focused on raising public awareness on the essential needs of seniors so that they can remain active and respected in society.

As part of this engagement, Qatalum will be supporting IHSAN's in-house magazine concerning elderly people's issues and affairs. IHSAN provides social services, nursing services and physiotherapy services, and its magazine is considered one of the main financial resources that support the foundation's work in this regard.

The IHSAN magazine is issued every three months in both Arabic and English and its 25,000 circulation is distributed to ministries, authorities, schools, embassies, hotels and medical centres – as well as along with all local newspapers.

IHSAN's activities include helping seniors overcome difficulties in all social, health, economic and rehabilitative aspects of life; advocating for seniors' rights; promoting Islamic values in the treatment and care of seniors; elevating the status of seniors in Qatari society; engaging seniors in family and community life; educating the public on issues facing seniors; and providing guidance to families of seniors.

This one year agreement was signed on Wednesday, October 1st, at Qatalum's Doha office, between Mr. Khalid Al Abdulla, Public Relations Manager of IHSAN and Mr. Ibrahim Jassim Fakhri, Qatalum's Corporate Communications Manager, who said at the signing: "Elderly people often get ignored or pushed to the fringes of modern society. Qatalum, as part of its Corporate Responsibility Agenda, wants to work to improve elderly people's services, and address their issues where possible. This agreement to support IHSAN's fantastic work is a starting point to better age with this group and on these issues".

This agreement will offer opportunities for Qatalum to be involved with a range of social activities which help a disadvantaged and often-marginalized group within Qatar, emphasizing Qatalum's commitment to good corporate citizenship as a flagship national company committed to supporting all groups within society.
