Life Saving Rules: Hot Work Implemented

Life Saving Rules Campaign on 'Hot Work' generally aims to create awareness and strengthen knowledge about Qatalum's Hot Work Procedures.

This HSE driven campaign will run from April to May 2016 as part of HSSE Improvement Projects for 2016. This is the 6th phase of the Life Saving Rules campaign initiated last year.

This phase of the campaign will focus on informing Qatalum, both employees and contractors of the Qatalum requirements when it comes to 'Hot Works'. 'Hot Works' is a general term used to define activity performed involving open flames or sparks. This includes but is not limited to; welding, grinding, soldering, brazing and cutting at all Qatalum facilities.

This campaign also emphasized changes to the Hot Work Procedure (QA-CD03-HSE06-P05) which has been revised by HSSE Department. The revised procedure is available in the intranet. Campaign tools include Hot Works Presentation, Posters, Flyers, Pop-Up which will be dispersed throughout the smelter.

Deon Earle, HSSE Manager believes, "Life Saving Rules Awareness is an initiative to achieve a commendable HSSE Culture at Qatalum. Through this, the HSS department is able to communicate and create awareness of the Qatalum HSSE requirements among employees and contractors."

Life Saving Rules in general, aim at creating a world-class HSSE Performance and Culture and therefore a world class smelter.
