On the 14th of September 2015, Jassim Al-Mejali presented to senior management the synopsis of his MS degree thesis about the ‘Role of Key Impurity Elements on the Performance of Aluminium Electrolysis - Current Efficiency and Metal Quality’. The future is bright both for Jassim and Qatalum.
Jassim joined Qatalum in 2011 as a graduate trainee - part of the ‘developee’ programme. In 2013, after completing the program he qualified for a position as process engineer. Driven by a desire to learn and further his career, sponsored by Qatalum, Jassim perused a Master’s degree at Qatar University in Material Science and Technology.

As part of building a knowledge based economy in Qatar, Qatalum contributes to the University by sponsoring a professor’s chair teaching aluminium technology. Jassim fulfilled the requirement as a Qatalum employee, amongst other students, who subscribed to the course which weighed heavily towards his graduation.
Since joining, in four short years, Jassim drive and ambition has allowed him to grow from a developee to a permanent senior staff employee within Qatalum.
When asked about his decision to peruse the aluminium field, Jassim said, “Upon graduation, I had no idea about industries in Qatar. All my friends wanted to get into oil and gas industry; however I wanted an alternative and found the aluminium industry very interesting.

It is this very aluminium that is currently helping Jassim fulfil his ambitions of learning and personal growth with the promise of a new senior position, with the full backing of management, as ‘Head of the booster unit project’. The project is about increasing current in the cells with newer 2nd and 3rd generation cells.
Jassim’s mentor and Manager at Qatalum, Ben Benkahla, Potline Process Manager, Reduction, said about Jassim’s progress “Jassim represents the new generation for Qatari leaders. He is successfully progressing through all aluminium smelting process knowledge and the completion of his Master has demonstrated his potential. His next challenge will be to manage the main pots development project of Qatalum with the booster unit. Jassim can count on the whole process team in the coming months to achieve the expected results.”
Qatalum Management congrats Mejali
Further to his responsibilities within Qatalum and as an expectant father, Jassim represents all that is valued within Qatalum. He is seen as a brand ambassador for the industry amongst his millennial peers and reflects, through his achievements, the high quality products Qatalum produces which in turn reflect the quality reputation of the State of Qatar.
