The King of Norway has appointed Zafer S. Nahawi to commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit for outstanding service in the interest of Norwegian industry in the Middle-East. Nahawi has been Hydro’s local representative in Qatar and the Middle-East since 1991, and serves on the Board of Qatalum.
The Order was given by Øystein Bråthen, head of Chancery of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, at a ceremony in Hydro's headquerters in Oslo Tuesday evening. The Royal Norwegian Order of Merit is conferred on foreign and Norwegian nationals as a reward for their outstanding service in the interest of Norway. Nahawi is a Jordan born American national representing Norwegian business interests in Qatar. He came to Qatar in 1977 as an engineer in Qafco. From 1991 he has been Hydro’s representative in Qatar and Middle-East and an important link between Hydro and Qatar. Today Nahawi also represents the Norwegian fertilizer company Yara International in Qatar. In his speech Reiten emphasized that Nahawi's personal integrity and local knowledge have been of the utmost importance for Hydro’s entry into activities in Qatar. |
