GAC HSE leaders convened at Qatalum to advance regional collaboration on ESG and HSE.
Qatalum, through its HSEQ group, hosted the Gulf Aluminium Council (GAC) ESG Meeting on 28–29 May 2025, bringing together HSE representatives from leading aluminium producers across the region.
Participants included Ma’aden, Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), SOHAR Aluminium, and Al Taiseer, alongside the host team from Qatalum.
The event featured an opening remarks by the Committee Chairman. Discussions covered a wide range of topics including incident reviews, climate change risks and opportunities, and a session on safety and leadership by EGA’s Salman Dawood. Qatar University also contributed academic insights, reinforcing the role of research in advancing industry safety and sustainability.
Ma’aden presented a root cause analysis of a crane incident, while The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) delivered a virtual presentation on the importance of safety awards.
Sub-committee meetings for ESG and HSE followed, allowing participants to align strategies and explore future collaboration.

The event concluded with a site visit to Qatalum’s facilities, offering attendees a close look at operational practices and safety standards in action.
By leading this key engagement, Qatalum reaffirmed its commitment to regional collaboration and continuous improvement in ESG and HSE performance across the aluminium sector.
