Stian Tangen has taken the role of Chief Operations Officer at Qatalum effective February 1, 2024. Stian brings a wealth of expertise as a qualified engineer holding a master’s degree in engineering (Metallurgy) and a PhD in Material Science and Engineering. With 20 years of experience across various roles in global aluminum companies, including a previous tenure at Qatalum where he served as Cast House Production Manager from 2014 to 2016, and as a Plant Manager at the Hydro Hoyanger Smelter from 2016 to 2019, Stian has consistently demonstrated his capabilities.

During his most recent tenure at Hydro Aluminium, starting in 2019, Stian excelled as the Head of Technology Development and Operational Support. In this role, he led Technology Development and Operational Support for all Primary Smelters and Recyclers in the Aluminium Metal Business area. He also spearheaded Aluminium Metal’s Technology Decarbonization Roadmap, overseeing initiatives such as Carbon Capture & Storage and HalZero programs. Additionally, he served as a Board Member of Hycast, Hydro Industrial Insurance, and the Slovalco smelter.
