Management Team

Following the transition from the project phase, the board appointed current Qatalum management team is tasked with operating the plant at full production.

  • Khalid Mohammed Laram

    Chief Executive officer

    Mr. Khalid Laram was appointed CEO of Qatalum in November 2019. He previously held the position of CEO from July 2015 to December 2018. Mr. Khalid Laram joined Qatalum as Deputy CEO in November 2010. In addition, Mr. Khalid Laram has served on the Board of Directors of Qatar Aluminium Manufacturing Company (QAMCO) since its incorporation. Mr. Khalid Laram holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California, USA. He began his professional career with Qatar Energy in 1985 and he has 35 years of experience covering the full spectrum of front-end engineering design, plant start-up and the operation of complex facilities.

  • Stian Tangen

    Chief Operations Officer

    Stian Tangen has taken the role of Chief Operations Officer at Qatalum effective February 1, 2024. Stian brings a wealth of expertise as a qualified engineer holding a master’s degree in engineering (Metallurgy) and a PhD in Material Science and Engineering. With 20 years of experience across various roles in global aluminium companies, including a previous tenure at Qatalum where he served as Cast House Production Manager from 2014 to 2016, and as a Plant Manager at the Hydro Hoyanger Smelter from 2016 to 2019, Stian has consistently demonstrated his capabilities. During his most recent tenure at Hydro Aluminium, starting in 2019, Stian excelled as the Head of Technology Development and Operational Support. In this role, he led Technology Development and Operational Support for all Primary Smelters and Recyclers in the Aluminium Metal Business area. He also spearheaded Aluminium Metal's Technology Decarbonization Roadmap, overseeing initiatives such as Carbon Capture & Storage and HalZero programs. Additionally, he served as a Board Member of Hycast, Hydro Industrial Insurance, and the Slovalco smelter.

  • Ahmad Al Khudairi

    Chief Financial Officer

    Mr. Ahmad Al-Khudairi has served as CFO of Qatalum since 22nd June 2014. Prior to joining Qatalum he held a senior finance position with RasGas. Mr. Ahmad Al-Khudairi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Qatar University and an Executive MBA from HEC Paris University. He began his professional career with Qatar Petroleum in 1996 and has over 20 years of experience with large industrial companies.

  • Nafal Al Hajri

    Chief Supply Chain Officer

    Mr. Nafal Al Hajri has served as CSCO of Qatalum since 2nd April 2016. He joined Qatalum in January 2012 and has previously held the roles of Marketing and Sales Manager and Logistics Manager. Mr. Nafal Al Hajri holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Economics) from Qatar University and a post graduate degree in International Transport from Cardiff University, UK. His experience includes key roles in the Supply Chain function with Oryx GTL and Qatar Steel.

  • Nasser Al-Naimi

    Chief Administration Officer

    Mr. Nasser Al-Naimi has served as CAO of Qatalum since 30th May 2016. He joined Qatalum in 2015 and previously held the role of HR Manager. Mr. Nasser Al-Naimi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Qatar University and an Executive MBA from HEC Paris University. He started his career at Hamad Medical Corporation and worked in key HR roles at QatarGas and Msheireb Properties (Qatar Foundation).

  • Yousuf Al Ejji

    Chief Technical Officer

    Mr. Yousuf Al-Ejji was appointed CTO in April 2019. He previously held the role of Engineering & Projects Manager upon joining Qatalum in November 2016. Mr. Yousuf Al-Ejji holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas, USA and an MBA from CNAM, France. He began his professional career with Qatar Petroleum in 2004.

  • Muhammad Ali Shahrukh

    Chief HSSE&Q Officer

    Mr. Muhammad Ali Shahrukh as CHSSE&Q Officer with effect from June 20, 2023, has more than 17 years of experience in health, safety, security, quality, environment, sustainability and risk management. His latest position before joining Qatalum was with Siemens Energy in Singapore as the EQS Head – Hub Asia. Prior to this role, he held senior HSSEQ roles with Siemens in the UK and MENA region and for Rolls-Royce Energy. In terms of aluminium experience, Mr Shahrukh was the Senior HSSE Specialist with Emirates Global Aluminum covering all aspects of the aluminium production process. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering from GIK Institute Pakistan and an international diploma in Occupational Health & Safety from NEBOSH UK.

  • José Fores

    Chief Power Officer

    Jose Fores has taken the position of CPO in March 2023. He has more than 20 years of experience in the Power Industry with several assignments managing large capacity plants for ENGIE in both Spain and the GCC region, having a clear focus on Operation Excellence and Process Safety. Jose arrived in the GCC in 2017 to lead Projects of Integrated Water and Power Plants of the capacity of 100 MIGD and 1500MW in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi holding the position of General Manager and board member in the Bahrain Joint Venture. He has contributed to Projects providing solutions for the integration of Renewable Energy with Conventional fossil Plants. With expertise in Power Generation and Combined Cycle Technology, Jose started his career with GE as a Gas Turbine and Electrical Generators Engineer in New York and Florida, USA. Mr. Jose holds an Electrical Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and an MBA from ESIC Zaragoza, Spain.
