Following the transition from the project phase, the board appointed current Qatalum management team is tasked with operating the plant at full production.
Khalid Mohamed Laram
Chief Executive Officer
Khalid Laram holds a BSc degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California, USA. In 1985 he joined Qatar Petroleum, where he has held various responsibilities over the past 25 years including from 1995 to 1997, position of Head of Onshore Projects. With a quarter of a century’s experience in major project management in the oil and gas industry, Laram’s expertise covers everything from feasibility studies, to design, procurement, construction, commissioning and start up, including operations. Notable projects in which he has been involved include the North Field development of QatarGas LNG trains 1 and 2, the NGL-4 Project as Project Manager and phases 1 and 2 of the Al-Khaleej Gas Project.
Chief Operations Officer
Olaf Wigstol, born in 1958, has an a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from NTNU in Norway. Carbon, Reduction, Casthouse Group managers in addition to the Sustainability Manager will be reporting to him.
Olaf’s early career included managerial positions in the international oil and gas industry. In 1994 Olaf entered into the aluminium associated sector as Managing Director of Vigeland Metal Refinery and Vigelands Brug and since then, has held several senior positions within the aluminium industry. Before joining Qatalum, Olaf’s position, since 2011, was Senior Vice President, Hydro Smelters and Managing Director, Hydro Aluminium A/S Norway.
Ahmad Al Khudairi
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Ahmad Al-Khudairi graduated in 2004 with a BSc degree in Accounting from Qatar University and he obtained an Executive MBA from HEC Paris University in 2016.
Mr. Al-Khudairi joined Qatar Petroleum in 1996 and was transferred to RasGas in 2004 to work in different fields of financial accounting and reporting.
Currently, Mr. Al-Khudairi is the Chief Financial Officer of Qatalum, adding his wide expertise in Oil & Gas industry.
Group Manager - Carbon
Bernhard Eich, a German engineering graduate has joined Qatalum with over 30 years of senior line and project management experience within the primary aluminium
industry. Bernhard has worked at a senior level in Germany, Canada and Norway and was also Head of Hydro’s Carbon Business from August 2003 to May 2006. Bernhard joined Qatalum as Chief Carbon Officer and from his extensive experience is highly competent in leading the Carbon team within Qatalum.
Geir Arne Nilsen
Chief Technical Officer
At Qatalum since December 1, 2011, Geir Arne Nilsen has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from 1995, and did his first career years as Site Manager during construction of a methanol plant in Norway, later as Project Manager, and followed by a longer international career step in Vancouver, Canada as Senior Business Performance Coach with RLG International.
From March 2008 he has been employed in Hydro as Performance/Improvement Manager and as Carbon Manager at the Aardal Plant in Norway.
Hans Petter Lange
Group Manager - Reduction
Mr Lange holds a Master of Science in Metallurgy from NTNU in Trondheim from 1984, and Master of Business Administration from University of Glasgow in 2007.
Hans has broad experience from SØRAL, both as technical manager, casthouse manager as well as reduction manager. He was appointed Plant Manager to the Rio Tinto smelter Lochaber in Scotland from 2003 until 2007. For the last years Hans Petter Lange has been part of Norsk Hydro Primary Metal Technology, responsible for Operational Support for both fully-owned and part-owned smelters.
Chief Power Officer
Hervé Perrin, a French national, is an experienced power generation professional with experience in the field since 1990. Hervé has worked for Fortum O&M UK, Taweelah B in the UAE and lastly as Vice-President of the Jamaica Public Service Company associated with Marubeni Power International Inc. Hervé joined Qatalum Power Plant on the 1st September 2014. With an Engineering degree from France, Hervé's subsequent professional experience place him well in meeting the strategic and operational objectives of Qatalum's Power Plant.
Nafal Al Hajri
Chief Supply Chain Officer
Nafal has more than 17 years of experience in the Supply Chain function from Oryx GTL, Qatar Steel and Qatar Aluminium. He completed his bachelor degree in Business Administration from Qatar University and a post graduate degree in International Transport from Cardiff University, UK.
Nafal Al Hajri joined Qatalum as Logistics Manager on January 15, 2012 and worked as Marketing and Sales Manager from September 01, 2014 to June 30, 2015 as a part of cross function rotation.
Chief Administration Officer
Nasser Al-Naimi received his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Qatar University and holds notable professional certificates in Human Resources. Al-Naimi started his career at Hamad Medical Corporation, followed by Qatar Gas in the HR Department. Nasser moved to Msheireb Properties, the real estate investment arm of Qatar Foundation in 2011, where he held the position of Senior Manager of HR and Corporate Services. In 2015 he joined Qatalum as HR Manager.
Steinar Benum joined Qatalum in May 2015 as Casthouse Manager. Born in 1967, Steinar has a doctorate from the Institute of Metallurgy, NTH, Trondheim, Norway and has worked at a senior level within the aluminium process since 1995. Mr Benum was Casthouse Manager at Alcoa Aluminium Mosjoen before joining Qatalum.
