Qatar Petroleum and Hydro have signed an agreement to form a joint venture for the development, construction and operation of a world-class aluminium plant in Qatar. The agreement marks an important step forward to build one of the world's largest and most competitive primary aluminium plants

Main construction contract awarded

The Qatalum project, a 50% joint venture with Qatar Petroleum and Hydro, to construct a new primary aluminium plant in Mesaieed Industrial City, Qatar, is progressing according to schedule. Today QP and Hydro have signed a key contract with the Canadian company SNC-Lavalin International Inc, for the construction of the main buildings and related project infrastructure.

Torstein Dale Sjøtveit to head the Aluminium Metal business area Torstein Dale Sjøtveit (March 27, 2006) Following last week's signing of the joint venture agreement with Qatar Petroleum to develop and operate a world-class smelter in Qatar, Jon-Harald Nilsen will take the overall responsibility for Hydro's interests in the project and the joint venture company Qatalum.
