Qatalum closes USD 2.6 billion project finance deal. On Thursday, Qatalum successfully closed a project finance package with lending institutions for the construction of the new aluminium plant in Qatar. Village for 10,000 construction workers

Go-ahead for Qatalum aluminium project

Qatar Petroleum and Norsk Hydro ASA, the joint owners of Qatalum, have given the final approval for construction of the primary aluminium plant to begin this fall. Located in Mesaieed, Qatar, the plant will begin production late 2009 and reach its initial full 585,000-ton capacity in 2010.

Many Hydro employees to seize job opportunities in Qatar

From Hydro, Qatalum will be recruiting two categories - seconded personnel for operational positions, normally on three-five years assignment, and project staff on 3-12 months assignment during the start-up period. During 2009, the Hydro employees and their families will be moving to Mesaieed, where the Qatalum plant is to be built.
