Qatalum Foundation Stone Laying ceremony

All wil happen under the auspices of HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Heir Apparent of the State of Qatar. This will mark the conclusion of the site preparation phase and the start of construction. Most contracts have been awarded, and the stage is now set for the massive construction task.

We will maintain our strong focus on safety. During our site preparation work we have not had any major accidents, but we have had incidents – including potentially fatal ones. Traffic involving heavy equipment will continue, and we will now have a far higher number of construction workers at this site. This increases the risk, and we intend to work closely with our contractors to ensure that there is awareness and focus on safety in all operations.

As a part of the project we are also developing a Construction Village. By the end of this year, more than 1,000 employees of our contractors will already be living there. The planned total capacity is for more than 6,000 employees, who will obtain living quarters, as well as catering and recreation facilities. Qatalum is a world-class company, and this will also show in the facilities we offer those who are building the plant for us.
 
Qatalum has been established as a Qatari company; its full name being Qatar Aluminium Ltd. The management team has been appointed, and all are now in place focusing on the big task ahead – to develop this great company.

We will shortly take time out to celebrate, but only for a few days! We’ll  be back at work straight away afterwards to deliver on the strict milestones we have set ourselves.
