About Qatalum
Qatalum will be the largest aluminium plant ever launched. Qatalum, a joint venture by Qatar Petroleum and Hydro, will have a capacity in the first phase of 585,000 tonnes of primary aluminium, all to be shipped as value added aluminium casthouse products. A dedicated power plant with an installed capacity of 1350 MW will ensure a stable supply of electricity.
Hydro is responsible for the planning and execution of the Qatalum project in accordance with the project management agreement entered into with Qatar Aluminium Limited.
Hydro Projects, the Hydro sector established to undertake investment projects, will perform these tasks.

Project locations
The project management team is initially located in Oslo. A site team was established in Qatar during the fourth quarter of 2006 to liaise with the statutory Qatari authorities, and other interfacing entities, and to monitor site preparation and jetty construction.
Limited resident teams have been established at the premises of some of the EPC contractors to follow up engineering and procurement work.
The majority of the project team will move from Oslo and the EPC contractors’ premises to the Qatalum site from the summer of 2008 onwards.
