In the six months since its official opening, Qatalum has undergone significant changes, achieved a number of milestones and overcome some unexpected challenges.

​April was an exciting month for Qatalum, after the April 12th official opening of the state-of-the-art facility in Qatar; progress has been steady and according to plan. While its high profile launch marked a historic achievement within the aluminium industry, it has also highlighted the company’s ongoing fulfilment of its commitments towards sustainability, efficiency and safety as well as budgets and time schedules.

​In December, we marked the on-time start-up of Qatalum, one of the world's most cost-effective smelters, as a solid example of exceptional project management.

​Qatalum, which was a courageous idea back in 2004, is now being transformed into a reality.

​Preparations are now well underway for the Qatalum Foundation Stone Laying ceremony, which will take place on November 19 in Mesaieed, Qatar.

​In two and a half years, Qatalum will produce its first metal! The Executive Committee of Qatalum, with representatives from both partners Qatar Petroleum and Norsk Hydro, has made the final approval to start the construction.
